(12 pm-5 p.m)
Today was the first day of my internship at People Like Art. I started my day there talking to Shannon and getting to know some of the business. We talked about her daily routine, her design process and some of the things I will be doing there. In the first few minutes of us talking, I found out who her target market was, which are working women in thier thirties. I actually found that very shocking because a lot of the garments she sells I can see people my age wearing them. Then she reminded me that people my age are in school and can't afford to spend forty dollars on a top. After we talked and she took me on a tour of her shop, we started the organization process. First by cleaning out four bins of scrap fabrics and getting them down to two bins. Then I learned how to clean an iron using some q-tips, a rag, soapy and water. That was the first time I had ever cleaned an iron. Then I helped her clean the snow decoration off the windows, then organize the threads and other sewing materials. While cleaning out some of her drawers she saw that she had a lot of swatches and she didn't want to throw them away. So the last thing I did today was make a fabric swatch book, full of all her swatches.
So today was a success! I really had fun today working with Shannon, which made the time go by extremely fast. I can't wait to see what tomorrow has to offer, she told me she will have more for me to do. I can't wait, see you tomorrow!
