(12 pm- 5pm)
Day two of my internship with Shannon at People Like Art and she has everything planned out for me. The first thing on the list was for me to look through her design sketchbooks. There were four of them and she wanted me to look at them from the oldest to the newest. Her sketchbooks were amazing she had fabric swatches and little illustrations. She showed the different types of techniques she use and she used a lot of them, she even did burn test on fabrics. She used a lot of fabrics, I saw a lot of rayons, cottons and polyester. One thing I have learned from looking at her sketchbook, Is that if at first you don't succeed, try try again. If you could see how many test she did you would thing she was a pro. Something that I read in her sketch book was:
"Sticks and stones, Ropes and bones"
Thats just a little something that made me laugh when I looked through her sketchbook.
The next thing that was on the list was to draw flats of every type of garment on the sales floor. There were eight garments that she wanted me to draw flats of. It was funny because at first I thought I was going to draw them on the computer but to my surprise she wanted me to do them by hand. I wasn't that bad, seeing that it wasn't my first time drawing them by hand.
The third and last thing I did today was look through a book called Art Deco Textiles by Charlotte Samuels. Shannon wanted me to get an understanding of what inspires her. The inspiration for her collections has been Art Deco and 90s Grunge. Looking through the book I saw a lot of prints and geometric shapes. Thats when I understood where she got all of the prints that I see on all of her garments she made.
She also wanted me to me to illustrate some patterns that we could possibly use in her spring collection. After looking through the book and taking notes, I started to get some ideas. Then before you know it it was five o'clock and it was time to go. I hadn't even finished my sketches but Shannon said I could finish next week. So until next time.
