Day 16: Ironing, Pinning, Wash Test and Sewing

(12 p.m. - 5p.m.)

Happy Friday, today at PLA I started my day off doing the usual daily task, ironing. I really do believe that I have become a professional at ironing. I ironed about nine or six pieces that she cut out from the dyed fabric she had me iron yesterday. Then Shannon had me tape them down to brown paper so she could start printing on them asap. After that Shannon had me do a wash test on some black fabric that she had bought. Then she had me quick dry it by ironing the fabric. I was surprised that I got the fabric all the way dry because it was soaked.

The next thing on the list was for me to sew the side seams on nine and I repeat nine garments. One thing I have learned from Shannon that has stuck with me. Was to always have an order to the way you do things, for example the way you sew a garment. You start by doing the shoulder seams first then work you way to the side seams and so on. It really makes a difference, especially for me when I am working on my senior collection.

The last thing I did for today was make wholesale tags individually. You never know the hard work that is put into a small design shop until you are interning at one. All the detail that she puts into it makes me appreciate small business owner even more. I didn't finish all of them but I am sure they will be waiting for me next week. Until then, I will see you!
